THE AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL PODCAST CRUISES DOWN REBEL HIGHWAY
Rebel Highway was a revival of American International Pictures created and produced by Lou Arkoff, the son of Samuel Z. Arkoff, and Debra Hill for the Showtime network in 1994. The concept was a 10-week series of 1950s “drive-in classic” B-movies remade “with a ’90s edge.” Each episode shared a title with a classic AIP release from the 1950s but often little else.
For 10 weeks, Jeff and Cheryl explored one Rebel Highway episode a week, beginning with Roadracers, directed by Robert Rodriguez and finishing up with Reform School Girl, directed by Jonathan Kaplan. Did Jeff and Cheryl find the modern versions to be better than the original titles? Find out by following the links on our Episodes page.
HAPPY 2nd ANNIVERSARY, AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL PODCAST!
Two years ago, on April 2nd, 2023, Jeff and Cheryl launched their podcast featuring an in-depth discussion of a different AIP film each week. In that time they’ve reviewed over 100 films, from every year that American International Pictures was active (1954 – 1980). Even with that many episodes in the can, there are still hundreds more to do. Stay tuned for the third year and look for some special episodes coming soon.
100TH EPISODE!
The American International Podcast has reached its 100th episode! In it, Jeff and Cheryl tell you the story of (and the story behind) the movie Cooley High. They also discuss their favorite – and not so favorite – of the movies they’ve covered so far. What made the best and worst lists? Find out by listening to our 100th podcast episode, Cooley High.
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION
In its second summer, the American International Podcast looked at movies made for or released by AIP’s television distribution wing, American International Television. Find out more about AITV here.
